Printing Works

General data
Printing works process paper and dyes and produce goods. Printing works can be built by a player. Building cost is £515,504. Printing works have 1 possible layout.
Printing works production is shown in the table (production data is calculated for 8 cycles a month. During game play, there are 8 or 9 cycles, while the total amount of distributed cargo is adjusted with property for minimal amount of cargo distributed).
Additionally, about 16 units of goods are produced from internal resources of the industry on the lowest production level.
The industry processes paper and dyes at the same time and both are required for production. The industry can't produce goods from paper without dyes and from dyes without paper unless dyes are not defined.
Level | Cycles | Goods | Paper | Dyes |
---|---|---|---|---|
Very low | 1 | 120 | 64 | 8 |
Low | 2 | 240 | 128 | 16 |
Normal | 4 | 480 | 256 | 32 |
High | 9 | 1080 | 576 | 72 |
Very high | 19 | 2280 | 1216 | 152 |
Ultimate | 41 | 4920 | 2624 | 328 |
Production change
Changing production level is calculated by comparing the min of paper waiting and dyes waiting * 7 with the value shown in the table.
The industry can increase production level by one, and decrease it to any level. Increasing production on normal and higher production levels also requires that at least 50% of goods are transported.
When the industry has a very low production level and does not have enough cargo waiting, it tests close down conditions. Industries in service have a close down chance reduced by 50%. Newly built industries can be closed only if they are at least 2 years old. Industries, built by the random map generator or map editor, can be closed only if they are at least 5 years old. A close down chance is 2% and there is an 8% chance for increasing production.
Level | Decrease | Increase |
---|---|---|
Very low | 72 | 216 |
Low | 144 | 432 |
Normal | 288 | 864 |
High | 648 | 1944 |
Very high | 1368 | 4104 |
Ultimate | 2952 |
Stockpile size
Cargo acceptance is limited by storage capacity. If the stockpile is in overflow, the industry stops accepting cargo until the stockpile is down to 75% of capacity, at which point the industry will start accepting cargo again.
Level | Paper | Paper (75%) | Dyes | Dyes (75%) |

Possible locations
Printing works should be built on flat land near water (4 - 20 tiles) and in towns (Rz0 > Ed > Rz1). They can't be built near other printing works, paper mills or chemicals plants.
